As senior associate dean of University of Wisconsin Extended Campus, John leads a number of initiatives designed to help nontraditional students gain a University of Wisconsin education to achieve their career goals.
John is responsible for all aspects of academic programming for the University of Wisconsin Flexible Option—University of Wisconsin System’s competency-based program designed for working adults. He leads the Office of Academic Affairs at CEOEL, overseeing UW-Extension’s first-ever academic degree program, the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, and is currently guiding the institution through the Higher Learning Commission’s regional accreditation process.
John also oversees the award-winning University Learning Store, an online department store where adult learners acquire job-focused credentials from top U.S. universities. This group includes such prestigious organizations as the University of Washington Continuum College, UCLA, Georgia Institute of Technology and more, with UW-Extension as the managing partner.
Before joining UW-Extension, John served for 13 years as the dean of the UW-Whitewater’s School of Graduate Studies and Continuing Education, the institution’s primary outreach arm that provides programming to more than 25,000 constituents across southeastern Wisconsin annually. While at UW-Whitewater, he served in a number of interim appointments, including provost and vice chancellor for Academic Affairs.
John received his M.A. and Ph.D. in Speech Communication from the University of Minnesota and his B.A. in Communication from Gustavus Adolphus College.
